    C of O Recertification:Kano Govt.To Publish Defaulters’ Names

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Kano State Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning is to publish in the national dailies names of defaulters of its ongoing recertification of Certificates of Occupancy(Cs of O) of land properties “for their notice and necessary action.”

The defaulters’ names will also be published
at the premises of Kano State Library, the Audu Bako Secretariat, Gidan Murtala and the Kano State High Court, amongst other places.

The state Commissioner of Lands and Physical Planning,Alhaji AbdulJabbar Mohammed Umar, disclosed this while addressing a World Press Conference in Kano on Tuesday.

“I wish to inform you that the names of the defaulters shall be published across National dailies from tomorrow, for their notice and necessary action.

“The names shall be published in the Newspapers and selected Government outlets, which shall include, The Kano State Library, Audu Bako Secretariat, Gidan Murtala and the Kano State High Court amongst other places.

“These individuals are enjoined to come forward and take necessary actions in order to avoid revocation of their land titles,” Umar said.

He also announced the extension of the recertification period by 60 days to enable land title owners whom have not recertified them to do so.

“Despite the positive effort being made through multiple chances of sensitizing the public as well as an extension of time limit, it is quite unfortunate that many have decided to be lackadaisical and aloof to all forms of entreaties to safeguard their land assets by recertifying them.

“Unfortunately, this attitude can make them vulnerable to complete loss of their land assets through revocation under section 28(5) of the land use Act 1978.

“Based on further considerations, the Government wishes to announce a further extension of the recertification period for a further 60 days,”he said.

The commissioner also disclosed that the ministry had successfully enumerated 241,025 land properties within Nassarawa and Fagge Local Government Areas, and had been continuously enumerating properties across Tarauni, Dala, Kano Municipal and Gwale Local Government Areas.
