The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has ratified the appointment of Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo as the Council Secretary and elected Comrade Sadiya Inuwa Musa of Jigawa Television (JTV) as the new Assistant Secretary.
The decisions were among key resolutions reached during the Council’s Congress held on Thursday at the NUJ Press Centre, Dutse, under the chairmanship of the State Council Chairman, Comrade Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the Congress and signed by the Council Secretary, Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo, the ratification of his appointment followed the resignation of the former Secretary, Comrade Aisha Ahmed, in line with the provisions of the NUJ Constitution.
The Congress also approved the recommendation of the State Executive Council (SEC), leading to the election of Comrade Sadiya Inuwa Musa as the Council’s Assistant Secretary.
The Congress commended the Executive Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar A. Namadi, FCA, for facilitating the hosting of the forthcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the NUJ in Dutse. Delegates also appreciated the governor for approving the 2026 NUJ Press Week and providing financial support towards its successful hosting.
As part of preparations for the Press Week, the Congress approved the constitution of an Organising Committee and an Awards and Recognition Committee to coordinate activities for the event.
The Congress further applauded the Managing Director of Jigawa Television (JTV), Alhaji Abba Muhammad Tukur, for donating sports kits to the Jigawa Media Football Team for this year’s Inter-Security and Media Football Competition, describing the gesture as a boost to unity, healthy living and professional camaraderie among journalists.
Members also unanimously endorsed the nomination of selected personalities for Merit Awards to be presented during the forthcoming NUJ Press Week, subject to the approval of the NUJ National Secretariat. The awards are intended to recognise outstanding contributions to the growth of the Union and national development.
In another resolution, the Congress agreed to accord a befitting reception to the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and members of the National Executive Council during the grand finale of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Media and Security Football Tournament, one of the activities lined up for the 2026 NEC meeting in Dutse.
The Congress reaffirmed its commitment to promoting ethical journalism, safeguarding the welfare of members and strengthening collaboration with government and other stakeholders in advancing the development of Jigawa State and Nigeria.
