Insecurity:It Is Ridiculous To Tell Nigerians Peace Is Being Achieved – Sen. Babba Kaita
By Abdullahi Yusuf
Katsina State governorship candidate on the platform of the African Democratic Congress(ADC) in the 2027 general elections and former Senator representing Katsina North, Ahmed Babba Kaita, has decried what he described as the poor handling of the nation’s insecurity by the Tinubu administration.
Senator Kaita made the remark in an interview with a private online television, JBC.
According to him,the APC government has failed to protect people’s lives and property, especially in the northwestern parts of the country where he said the situation is escalating.
He said the Federal Government only makes significant military personnel deployment after an area has been devastated by bandits, citing the example of Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State where one time Defence Spokesman, retired Maj. Gen. Rabe Abubakar was kidnapped and killed by the criminals.
The former lawmaker noted that even when the government deployed more troops to the area to rescue the late General’s wife who was still in captivity after her husband’s death, the bandits still unleashed terror on the community killing seven persons, adding that an uncountable number of persons were also killed in the state.
He said because of their failure to address the situation, both the federal government and the Katsina State government had resorted to blaming the opposition political parties for the insecurity bedeviling communities in all parts of the country.
He noted that while Katsina State alongside other northern states have been suffering in the hands of bandits and other criminals for years, it was only when banditry visited the south through the kidnap of school children and their teachers in Oyo State that the federal government directed the recruitment of civilian guards in Katsina State after it gave the same order in Oyo State “in order to save itself from more embarrassing criticisms.”
Senator Kaita said Nigerians are still waiting for explanations on the video clip that trended recently about bandits passing through a police check-point, and the seven bandits that were arrested at Katsina Airport on their return from this year’s Hajj, as disclosed by the Minister of Interio,as well as the alleged sponsorship of some bandits by the Katsina State APC-led government to perform the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The ADC governorship candidate then expressed support for calls on people to arm themselves in order to protect their communities against bandits in the face of government failure to address the situation.
He assured that the ADC is prepared to provide better and people-oriented leadership if voted into office in 2027.
He then condoled with Nigerians who lost their loved ones in the hands of bandits and prayed for an end to the problem.
