The Students and Youths Voters Awareness Subcommittee has unveiled a comprehensive strategy aimed at boosting voter awareness, sensitization, and participation among students and youths across Kano State.
The resolutions were reached during the committee’s meeting held on Wednesday at the Kano State Library, Ahmadu Bello Way, Kano, under the chairmanship of the Special Adviser on Students Affairs, Dr. Yusuf Jibrin Oyoyo.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Oyoyo stressed the need for coordinated grassroots efforts to ensure that students and young people actively participate in the electoral process through voter registration, collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and effective participation in elections.
As part of the resolutions, the committee agreed to collaborate with major students’ organizations across the state to serve as platforms for voter education and mobilization. The organizations include the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committees (JCC), Students’ Union Government (SUG) Presidents, National Association of Kano State Students (NAKSS), NAKSS Presidential Forum, National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), National Association of University Students (NAUS), National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students (NANCES), Abba Gida Gida Students Assembly, and Abba Students Care Initiative.
The committee noted that engaging these bodies would facilitate effective dissemination of voter awareness messages and encourage greater participation among students at tertiary institutions across the state.
In addition, the committee resolved to widen its outreach by partnering with youth-focused organizations and leadership structures, including the Kano State Executive of the Youth Council, leadership of the Youth Council in all 44 Local Government Areas, and the 44 APC Local Government Youth Leaders.
According to the committee, the initiative is designed to ensure comprehensive coverage of all local government areas and strengthen voter mobilization efforts among youths at the grassroots level.
The meeting also approved the inclusion of Self-Help Groups in the mobilization framework to enhance community engagement and increase awareness at the ward and neighborhood levels.
The committee expressed confidence that the multi-stakeholder approach would significantly improve voter awareness and participation among students and youths in Kano State.
Dr. Oyoyo commended members for their commitment and urged immediate implementation of the resolutions to achieve the committee’s objectives.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by members to work collectively towards strengthening democratic participation and civic responsibility among young people across Kano State.
