A UNFPA ,two-day Step-Down Training aimed at strengthening community-led advocacy on gender and social justice has successfully concluded in Gombe State, drawing participants from multiple community-based organizations (CBOs) across the state.
The training, which ended on a high note, brought together grassroots actors, youth leaders, and civil society representatives for intensive learning and experience-sharing sessions.
Participants engaged in robust and highly interactive discussions on critical issues such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and the promotion of Positive Masculinity as a pathway to social change.
Facilitators used participatory approaches including group work, case studies, role plays, and open dialogues to deepen understanding of harmful social norms and practices, while also highlighting practical strategies for prevention, advocacy, and community engagement. The sessions encouraged participants to reflect on their roles as change agents within their respective communities.
Speaking at the close of the training, organizers described the engagement as phenomenal, noting the high level of participation and commitment demonstrated by attendees. They emphasized that the step-down approach is designed to ensure that knowledge gained during the training is cascaded to grassroots communities, thereby amplifying impact.
To conclude the programme on a lighter and more relaxed note, participants took part in an interactive game session, which helped ease tension and further strengthened comradeship among attendees.
Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity, describing the training as timely and impactful. Many pledged to apply the lessons learned in their ongoing community interventions, particularly in addressing GBV, ending FGM, promoting SRHR awareness, and championing positive expressions of masculinity.
The organizers reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration with community-based organizations to promote inclusive, safe, and equitable communities across Gombe State and beyond.
