The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspect(name withheld) for circulating vedio and audio clips containing statements capable of inciting public disorder and creating fear among residents of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Dr.Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this at a joint press conference he addressed alongside the state Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Wayya,at the command’s headquarters,Bompai,Kano,on Thursday.

Bakori said the command had swiftly arrested the suspect in a “Sting Operation,” and is currently being interrogated.

According to him,the suspect was in the vedio and audio clips, found requesting all non-indigenes and adherents of a different religion to leave the state immediately.

“We wish to state that the command views the inflammatory statement seriously and that the suspect will be made to face the full weight of the law.

“The command strongly condemns the creation and dissemination of such inflammatory content and warns individuals involved to cease immediately.

“As any person found spreading false information will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted, accordingly. The command will not tolerate any form of hate speech, incitement,or violence,” the commissioner warned.

He added that adequate security measures had been put in place to prevent any breach of the peace, and ensure the safety of all residents of the state.

On his part, the commissioner of information, Comrade Wayya, condemned rumours that there would be protests in Kano on Friday aimed at disturbing the peace as well as disrupting the commercial and economic activities in the state.

He said the State Government is doing everything possible to bring the situation under control.

He said the government had been trying to counter the false narratives,as well as curtail the spread of fake news and misinformation.

The commissioner also stated that the State Government had been working closely with the relevant stakeholders to combat the dissemination of fake news and creation of vedio clips capable of damaging the reputation and integrity of respected people in the state.
