Renewed Hope Agenda:Aliko Dangote Varsity Gets 2 Megawatts Solar Minigrid

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

As part of the solarization project of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the construction of 2 megawatts Solar Minigrid for the Generation of Power at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, will soon commence.

The Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, disclosed this when he received the Vice Chancellor of the University,Prof.Musa Tukur Yakasai, on Wednesday in Abuja.

A statement by the university’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Affairs,
Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, quoted the director-general as saying that contract for the project had already been awarded by the Federal Ministry of Innovations, Science and Technology at the cost of N3.8 billion.

“The project will be completed within three months. Most of the universities get 1 megawatts, but we are starting with 2 megawatts in Wudil.

“The Renewed Hope solarization cuts across every state and the infrasructure to benefit are mostly hospitals, tertiary institutions and rural areas”, he emphasized.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed for the launching of 4 megawatts at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital when two patients lost their lives due to lack of electricity.

“As an Alumnus of the University, you have given me everything and I will give back to you. I never shy away from introducing the University wherever I go.You made us and without you I will not be here,” Dr.Abdullahi said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdullahi who had earlier provided 200 units of streetlights to the university, disclosed that additional 200 units would soon be released to the university.

He expressed appreciation to the Chancellor of the University, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, members of the Governing Council, staff and students for the solidarity shown to him.

Earlier, Vice Chancellor Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai appreciated the contributions of the Director General to the development of the University, especially in the area of power supply.

“We acknowlede the provision of 200 units of streetlights which has significantly changed the system by reducing security challenges and provided opportunity for students to read comfortably, especially at night.

“We also appreciate your support to the succesful hosting of the 2025 NUGA preliminaries, among others. We cherish you for being a good ambassador of the University,”Prof.Yakasai said.

He, however, requested for further collaborations in renewable energy, Central Energy Laboratory, Energy Calculator, training and many other windows, while congratulating the Director General on his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
