Kano Govt Settles N32 Billion Outstanding Retirees’ Gratuities,Death Benefits

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

Kano State Government has so far paid the sum of N32 billion as outstanding gratuities and death benefits to retired civil servants and families of deceased workers in the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this while announcing the release of the sixth Tranche of N5 billion as gratuities and deaths benefits to retired civil servants and families of deceased workers in the state, at a ceremony held at the Government House,Kano,on Wednesday.

“We thank Allah(SWT) for enabling us to continue to settle the outstanding gratuities and deaths benefits to our retired civil servants and families of deceased civil servants in the state.

“In continuation of the payment, today we are releasing the sum of N5 billion as the sixth Tranche of gratuities and death benefits to retired civil servants and families of deceased civil servants,” Yusuf said.

He said with the payment of the sixth Tranche, his administration had now settled a total of N32 billion as gratuities and deaths benefits, since its inception in May,2023.

He said the figure was out of the total sum of N48 billion unpaid gratuities and deaths benefits inherited from the previous administration in the state.

The Governor said the gesture was in furtherance of the determination and commitment of the State Government to end the long standing problem of non payment of gratuities and deaths benefits owed to retired civil servants of the state government and local governments, as well families of deceased civil servants.

He expressed the determination of his administration to clear the backlog of all the outstanding gratuities and deaths benefits to the retirees and families of deceased civil servants,so as to solve the problem permanently.

He congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to continue to exercise patience and pray for his administration to enable it to sustain the noble gesture.

Yusuf also commended the leadership and members of the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners for their understanding, support and cooperation to the State Government in its efforts to bring final relief to pensioners and families of deceased civil servants in the state.

Wild jubilations erupted among the pensioners as they started receiving instant bank alerts of their benefits, following the announcement of the payment by the Governor.

Dignitaries who graced the occasion included the national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC),Prof.Nentawe Yilwatda, and members of the state and national executive officials of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners(NUP).
