In continuation of sustained advocacy efforts to promote human dignity and safe communities, a civil society advocacy team on Wednesday visited The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Sabon Kaura, Bauchi State, to raise awareness on sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), positive masculinity, and the elimination of female genital mutilation (FGM).
The team was warmly received by the church leadership and congregation, who participated actively in a sensitisation session marked by open dialogue, reflection, and renewed commitment to social change. Discussions focused on the harmful impact of SGBV and FGM on individuals and families, while highlighting the role of positive masculinity in fostering respect, accountability, and healthy relationships within communities.
Speaking during the engagement, the advocacy lead emphasised that faith-based institutions remain vital partners in shaping values and influencing behaviour, noting that religious spaces provide trusted platforms for addressing sensitive social issues. “When faith leaders speak out against violence and harmful practices, the message resonates deeply and inspires action,” the team lead said.
Church leaders commended the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting teachings that uphold dignity, equality, and protection for women, girls, and vulnerable persons. They also encouraged continued collaboration between civil society organisations and faith communities to sustain awareness and translate knowledge into action.
Participants described the session as impactful, citing the safe space created for honest conversations and the practical guidance offered on preventing abuse and supporting survivors.
The advocacy team expressed appreciation for the openness and support shown by RCCG Sabon Kaura, stating that such partnerships are essential to building safe, respectful, and inclusive communities across Bauchi State and beyond.
