The Presidency has dismissed reports suggesting that the former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, were removed from office, stating instead that both officials voluntarily resigned their positions.
In a State House statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency clarified that Edun tendered his resignation prior to the announcement of his replacement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the statement, Edun, who recently turned 70, stepped down on health grounds after what was described as a period of ill health. He formally submitted his resignation on Monday and later paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where both men held a closed-door meeting lasting about an hour.
In his resignation letter, Edun expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as “a pleasure and privilege,” and commended the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” noting that Nigeria had become more resilient and internationally respected under Tinubu’s leadership.
Similarly, Dangiwa was said to have resigned his appointment and conveyed appreciation to the President for the chance to serve in the Federal Executive Council. The architect and former Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank had been appointed minister in August 2023.
The Presidency acknowledged the contributions of both former ministers to the administration’s economic and housing reforms, wishing them success in their future pursuits.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has tasked the newly appointed Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, with consolidating ongoing fiscal reforms and advancing the government’s economic agenda with renewed vigour.
The President is also expected to forward the name of a new housing minister-designate, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, to the Senate for confirmation in the coming days.
