Kano CSOs Coalition Lauds Waiya For Strengthening Government-CSO Relations

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Kano Patriotic CSOs Coalition Forum (KPCF), a leading coalition of over 451 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Kano State, has expressed appreciation and solidarity with the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Kano State Government and Civil Society Organizations.

This is contained in a statement signed by
Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma, the coalition’s Lead Convener,Ibrahim Hassan Gama,Co-Convener, and Peter Hassan Tijjani,Co-Convener

KPCF particularly commended the revival and repositioning of the Special Assignments Department within the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs.

“This strategic initiative has created a functional platform for engagement, consultation, and partnership between the Kano State Government and Civil Society Organizations, thereby fostering greater citizen participation in governance and public affairs.

“We acknowledge the remarkable efforts of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in promoting inclusive governance and recognizing the critical role of Civil Society Organizations as key stakeholders in the development process,” the coalition said.

Through the leadership of Comrade Waiya,it further said, the Ministry had initiated a series of constructive engagements with CSOs across the state, creating opportunities for dialogue, policy feedback, and collective action on issues affecting the people of Kano State.

These engagements, the group said, had also provided an effective channel for transmitting citizens’ concerns and recommendations to the Governor for appropriate consideration and action.

“For many years, communication and trust gaps existed between government institutions and civil society actors. The ongoing civic engagement initiatives championed by the Honourable Commissioner have significantly bridged these gaps, fostering a new atmosphere of mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation.

“This renewed relationship has enhanced transparency, accountability, and citizen-centred governance in Kano State.

“As a coalition committed to peacebuilding, democratic governance, social justice, and sustainable development, KPCF firmly believes that effective governance thrives when government institutions maintain open, transparent, and continuous engagement with citizens and their representative organizations.

“The current approach being championed by the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs represents a positive governance model worthy of emulation.

“KPCF equally commends Comrade Waiya for his leadership in the rehabilitation, empowerment, and reintegration of repentant youths under the Safe Corridor Kano Model Programme. This bold and innovative intervention demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing youth political violence, thuggery, Daba activities, criminality, drug abuse, and other social vices through a non-kinetic and sustainable approach aimed at building a peaceful and secure society.

“KPCF therefore reiterates its support for Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya and encourages the Kano State Government to sustain and institutionalize these engagement mechanisms to ensure that citizens’ voices continue to inform public policies, programmes, and development initiatives.

“We also call on all Civil Society Organizations in Kano State to seize this opportunity for constructive engagement and partnership in support of the government’s efforts to advance peace, development, accountability, social inclusion, and good governance.

“KPCF remains committed to working with the Kano State Government and other stakeholders in promoting civic participation, democratic governance, peacebuilding, and sustainable development for the benefit of all citizens of Kano State,” the statement added.
