In a renewed effort to strengthen democratic participation ahead of future elections, the Kano State Task Force Committee on Mobilization of Voter Registration, through its Sub-Committee on Engagement with the Business Community, has intensified advocacy by convening a One-Day Stakeholders’ Engagement with business leaders and market associations at the Kano State Chamber of Commerce Trade Fair Complex.

The forum underscored the critical role of voter registration in deepening democracy and ensuring that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to influence the nation’s leadership through the ballot. Speakers emphasized that obtaining a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is not merely a civic obligation but a constitutional right and a powerful instrument for shaping governance and national development.

Participants observed that the business community occupies a strategic position in voter mobilization because of its daily interaction with millions of traders, entrepreneurs, artisans, transport operators, and customers. They stressed that sustained sensitization within markets and commercial centres could significantly increase voter registration and strengthen citizens’ participation in the electoral process.

The stakeholders further noted that an informed and actively participating electorate is better equipped to demand accountability, transparency, and people-centred governance from elected leaders. They maintained that when citizens vote, they reinforce democratic institutions and contribute to the emergence of responsive leadership.

The engagement concluded with a strong appeal to all eligible Nigerians particularly members of the business community, traders, entrepreneurs, women, and youths to register for their Permanent Voter Cards without delay and remain committed to participating in future elections.

Chairman of the sub committee Dr Tijjani Sarki  reaffirmed that democracy flourishes when citizens actively participate, stressing that every registration completed today is an investment in a stronger democracy, while every Permanent Voter Card represents a voice that can shape the future. Every eligible citizen is therefore encouraged to register, because every vote and every voice counts.
