The Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on women Mobilisation, Hajiya Bilkisu Yakubu Indabo, has intensified advocacy for women’s active participation in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the state.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the Taskforce Committee on Voter Registration meeting chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Indabo underscored the strategic importance of women in shaping Nigeria’s democratic process.
She noted that women have consistently demonstrated commitment during elections, often forming the majority of voters who ultimately determine leadership outcomes at various levels of government. According to her, strengthening women’s participation in voter registration is not only a civic responsibility but also a pathway to deepening democracy.
“Women have always turned out in large numbers to vote. It is critical that they also take full advantage of the Continuous Voter Registration to secure their voter cards and safeguard their voices,” she said.
Indabo, a nurse by profession and former Caretaker Chairperson of Wudil Local Government Area, highlighted the Kano State Government’s commitment to women empowerment under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. She recalled how the governor sponsored her postgraduate studies abroad, describing it as a demonstration of the administration’s dedication to advancing women’s development.
Beyond her membership in the CVR Taskforce Committee, the Special Adviser disclosed that her office has mapped out comprehensive strategies to ensure eligible women are effectively mobilised for the exercise. These include intensified media engagement, grassroots sensitisation campaigns, and door-to-door mobilisation efforts aimed at reaching women in both urban and rural communities.
She further emphasized that inclusive governance can only be achieved when women actively participate in the electoral process, urging community leaders, civil society organisations, and the media to support the mobilisation drive.
As the CVR exercise continues, stakeholders say the renewed focus on women’s participation could significantly boost voter registration numbers and strengthen democratic representation in Kano State.
