Waiya Launches 6-Day Mega Voter Registration Exercise

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Chairman of the Kano State Task Force on Continuous Voter Registration, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Thursday launched a six-day mega Voter Registration centre, as part of the continuous efforts of the Task Force on mobilization of voter registration towards achieving its mandate.

Waiya, who is also the state Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, launched the centre at the Kofar Mata Indoor Sports Complex, with 20 designated units set up at the center to accommodate the large number of registrants.

A statement by the Chairman Publicity Committee of the Task Force, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, said Waiya expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout of residents eager to participate in the exercise

He emphasized the importance of the exercise, describing voter registration as a fundamental civic responsibility necessary for strengthening democracy.

The chairman commended the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting initiatives aimed at deepening democratic participation in the state.

According to him, the task force has put in place effective mechanisms to ensure mass participation across all communities.

“You can only choose your preferred leader through the ballot, and that is only possible by possessing a voter card,” he said, urging eligible residents to take advantage of the opportunity.

Also speaking, the Kano Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdu A. Zango, who led a delegation of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor the exercise, expressed satisfaction with the pace and organization of the process.

Zango assured the public of INEC’s commitment to ensuring a smooth, transparent, and credible registration exercise throughout the state.

The exercise is expected to last for six days from 1st April to 6th April, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
