Gov Yusuf Launches Empowerment Package For 1900 Buchers,Says Butchering Vital Component Of Kano’s Economy

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has launched an empowerment package for 1,900 Buchers drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state,to enhance their businesses.

Apart from boosting the Buchers’ trade, the initiative aims to improve hygiene in meat processing and strengthen the informal sector of the economy of the state.

Yusuf, who unveiled the package which included working tools at a ceremony held at the Government House on Thursday, described butchering as a very important component of the economy of the state.

“Your trade plays a very significant role in the economic base of the state, hence the need to empower you in order to boost your businesses for your own benefits and the overall interest of the state.

“The animals you slaughter, especially cows and camels apart from meat, skin, produce so many substances including the bones, blood and the faeces that can be used to make so many things costing billions of Naira,” he said.

The Governor, therefore, assured the Buchers that his administration would use the relevant agencies to train them on how to turn the animal by-products into wealth.

While distributing the materials, Yusuf said the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to ensuring that governance directly impacts the lives of ordinary citizens, particularly those operating in the informal sector.

“From the very first day of this administration, we made a firm commitment that government must touch the lives of ordinary citizens.

We pledged that the informal sector, which employs the overwhelming majority of our people, would no longer remain on the margins of government attention. Today is another fulfilment of that pledge,” he said.

He said the butchering business supports thousands of families, enhances food security, and provides raw materials for the leather and tannery industries in the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kano State Butchers Association, Malam Nasiru Isiyaku, appreciated the governor for strengthening the economic status of butchers in the state.

“Indeed, this intervention will boost our businesses and improve the lives of our members. We immensely thank Governor Yusuf’s support and pledge our continued cooperation with his administration,” Isiyaku said.
