Former NUJ President Muhammad Garba Redeems Pledge, Donates Smart TV To Kano Correspondents’ Chapel

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

Former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Muhammad Garba, has fulfilled his promise to the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel with a donation of a brand new 50-inch television set to the chapel.

Garba, a former Commissioner of Information in Kano State presented the television set to the leadership of the chapel on Saturday, in fulfilment of the pledge he made during the unveiling and commissioning of the rebranded Kano Correspondents’ Chapel complex held recently.

Speaking during the presentation, Garba said the donation was part of his commitment to supporting initiatives that would improve the working environment and welfare of journalists.

He expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the chapel for the confidence reposed in him, assuring that he would continue to identify with programmes and initiatives aimed at strengthening journalism and journalists in the state.

The former President of West African Journalists Association(WAJA) said the gesture was also intended to contribute to making the chapel a more conducive environment where journalists could interact, monitor current affairs and undertake professional activities.

Receiving the television set on behalf of the chapel, its Chairman, Murtala Adewale, commended Garba for fulfilling his pledge.

Adewale described the donation as a demonstration of integrity and commitment to the development of the journalism profession.

He said the chapel was particularly encouraged by the fact that Garba did not merely make a promise at the commissioning ceremony but returned to fulfil it within a short period.

According to him, the gesture would add value to the facilities available at the rebranded chapel complex and further enhance its activities.

“We are grateful to Comrade Muhammad Garba for this generous gesture. What makes it more significant is that this was a promise he made during the unveiling and commissioning of this complex, and today he has fulfilled that promise.

“This demonstrates that he is a man of his word and someone who genuinely believes in supporting journalists and the institutions that bring them together,” Adewale said.

The chairman noted that the chapel had continued to receive support from individuals and organisations since the commencement of efforts to improve its facilities, describing such gestures as encouragement for the leadership to do more.

He assured that the television set would be put to effective use for the benefit of members, particularly in keeping journalists abreast of important national and international developments.

Adewale also expressed the chapel’s appreciation to Comrade Garba for his continued support and contributions to the journalism profession in Kano and beyond.

The presentation was attended by members of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, who commended the former NUJ president for keeping his word.

The donation came as the chapel continues efforts to reposition its facilities and create a more conducive environment for professional activities, interaction and capacity development among its members.
