Dan’agundi To Lead North West Support Groups In Presidential Campaign Council

The year 1999 marked a significant turning point in Nigeria’s democratic history, ushering in a new political era and producing prominent political figures across the country’s geopolitical zones.

Northern Nigeria, in particular, has continued to play a major role in shaping the nation’s political development.

The region has produced respected political leaders and advocates of democracy, including Abubakar Rimi, Balarabe Musa, Audu Ogbeh, Abubakar Audu, Yahaya Kwande and Jolly Nyame, among others, who contributed in different ways to the political evolution of the country.

The emergence of political figures such as the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar and Abdullahi Adamu further opened another chapter in Nigeria’s political history, with a new generation of leaders taking centre stage.

As Nigeria approaches another important political cycle, 2026 is increasingly being viewed by political observers as a period that could usher in fresh faces and new political movements, particularly among younger politicians.

One name attracting growing attention in this regard is Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, whose increasing visibility in Kano’s political and social circles has generated discussions about the possibility of a new political force emerging from Northern Nigeria.

    Young and Energetic

Dan’agundi has continued to attract attention through his political engagements, public appearances and relationships with young people.

His supporters believe that his political style, charisma and grassroots connections could position him for a bigger role in the region’s political future.

Jegus Online TV gathered that his growing popularity, particularly among sections of the youth in Kano State, has also sparked conversations about whether a new generation of political leaders is beginning to emerge leaders who could bring different ideas, energy and approaches to Northern politics.

    Staying With His Supporters

One of the factors increasingly cited by his supporters is his continued engagement with the people who supported him politically.

Since the last election, at a time when many elected and appointed politicians were said to have distanced themselves from their supporters, Dr. Baffa Babba Dan’agundi reportedly remained closely connected to his supporters and grassroots networks.

His appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Director-General of the National Productivity Centre marked another significant chapter in his public career. However, rather than relocating to Abuja and becoming disconnected from his political base, Dan’agundi continued to maintain contact with his supporters and worked towards strengthening the structure and coordination of the Tinubu Support Groups.

His supporters say that this approach has helped him maintain his grassroots connection while also expanding his influence beyond Kano.

    Empowerment and Youth Development

Since then, Dan’agundi has also been associated with various empowerment initiatives across Kano and other states within the North-West region where he has political responsibilities.

These initiatives have included support for women and young people, assistance with means of transportation, provision of capital for small businesses, educational support and assistance to people facing various challenges.

His youth-oriented activities have also extended to the sports sector, where he has supported young athletes and grassroots sports development through the provision of sporting equipment and materials.

He has also supported coaches by facilitating opportunities for them to attend training and capacity-building programmes aimed at improving their technical knowledge and professional skills. Supporters believe that investing in both athletes and coaches can contribute to the long-term development of grassroots sports and create opportunities for young people across the region.

Another notable aspect of his political structure, according to his supporters, is the geographical spread of his network. Across the North-West, representatives have been appointed in the various states to make coordination and grassroots mobilisation easier and more effective.

For his supporters, these activities demonstrate that his political engagement goes beyond appearances and speeches, with an emphasis on maintaining relationships with the grassroots and supporting young people.

    A Timely Appointment?

Political observers, however, say that popularity alone will not determine the success of any emerging political gladiator.

They argue that consistency, political organisation, integrity, grassroots engagement and the ability to build bridges across different groups will ultimately determine how far any new political figure can go.

For Baffa Babba Dan’agundi, the growing attention presents both an opportunity and a challenge. If he can translate his current youth support, grassroots connections and political visibility into a broader and sustainable movement, observers believe he could become one of the notable political personalities to watch in Northern Nigeria.

The political landscape remains fluid, and the coming years will reveal whether the current momentum will develop into a lasting political force.

For now, one message appears to be gaining ground among political watchers: a new political gladiator may be emerging, and Northern Nigeria could soon witness the rise of a new generation of political leadership.
