Calvary Grace College of Bishops Consecrates Victor Majekodunmi Akure as Bishop in Kano

    From Adeola Ajakaiye, Kano

The Calvary Grace International College of Bishops has consecrated the Senior Pastor of Turning Point Faith Arena Ministry, Victor Majekodunmi Akure, as the fourth Bishop for the city of Kano.

The consecration ceremony, held over the weekend at the headquarters of Turning Point Faith Arena Ministry on Kwai Close, Nomansland in Kano, attracted leaders of the Christian community from across Nigeria as well as representatives of government agencies, traditional institutions and faith-based organisations in the state.

The ceremony was presided over by Bishop David Adebayo Bakare, Presbyter of the College in the Northern Region, who led other clerics in formally inducting Akure into the episcopal office.

Delivering the officiating sermon, Ransom Bello, Presiding Bishop of Calvary Life Assembly International Church, Kano, emphasised the spiritual and moral responsibilities attached to the office of a bishop.

He outlined nine essential qualities that anyone occupying the position must possess in order to effectively lead the church and serve society.

According to Bello, a bishop must be blameless in character, faithful in marriage, self-controlled, hospitable, and able to teach sound doctrine. He further noted that a bishop must not be given to drunkenness, must be gentle rather than violent, must not be greedy for financial gain, and must possess the ability to manage his household well.

The cleric explained that these virtues were necessary to maintain integrity, discipline and accountability in church leadership, stressing that the role of a bishop extends beyond pastoral duties to include moral guidance for the wider community.

“Leadership in the body of Christ requires a life that reflects discipline, humility and devotion to God. Anyone called to this office must demonstrate these virtues both in public and in private,” Bello said.

He urged the newly consecrated bishop to remain steadfast in his calling and to use his new position to promote unity within the Christian community and peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths in Kano State.

The event also brought together other bishops affiliated with the Calvary Grace International College of Bishops in Northern Nigeria, including Dr. Ransom S. Bello, Bishop Bolu Martins, Presiding Bishop of Treasurelife Ministry, and Dr. Ralph Olufemi Olowo, Presiding Bishop of Strong Tower Evangelical Assembly, which has its headquarters in Kano.

Also present at the ceremony were representatives of the Kano Emirate Council, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kano State and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).

The gathering was marked by prayers, worship sessions and goodwill messages from religious and community leaders who congratulated Akure on his elevation and encouraged him to remain committed to spiritual leadership and service to humanity.

The Calvary Grace International College of Bishops is known for its role in providing spiritual oversight and leadership training for Christian ministers, particularly within the Pentecostal community.

With his consecration, Akure is expected to join other bishops in strengthening Christian leadership and advancing the mission of the church in Kano and the wider northern region.
