The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Council, has appealed to workers in the state to remain calm and patient over the delay in the payment of salaries to some civil servants following a technical problem experienced by the bank handling the salary payment.
The Chairman of the Kano State NLC, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, explained that the problem occurred during the processing of workers’ salaries, resulting in some employees receiving their salaries twice, while others who had initially received payment subsequently had the duplicated amount withdrawn from their accounts by the bank.
According to him, the technical glitch also resulted in some workers yet to receive their salaries, thereby causing anxiety among affected employees.
Comrade Inuwa expressed the NLC’s understanding of the difficulties caused by the situation and urged workers to exercise patience, assuring them that the Office of the Head of Service, the Accountant-General and the Secretary to the State Government are making every effort to resolve the matter and ensure that all affected workers receive their legitimate salaries.
The NLC Chairman also commended workers who voluntarily returned salaries that were mistakenly paid into their accounts twice, describing their action as responsible and commendable.
He said the cooperation of workers would assist the authorities and the bank in resolving the issue expeditiously and ensuring that the salary payment process is properly regularised.
Comrade Inuwa further expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for its commitment to ensuring that workers’ salaries are paid promptly and consistently.
He said the NLC recognises the Governor’s commitment to the welfare of workers and his efforts to sustain timely salary payment despite the challenges associated with the salary processing system.
The NLC Chairman assured workers that the union remains in communication with the relevant government authorities and will continue to monitor the situation until all affected employees receive their salaries.
He urged workers to remain calm and avoid unnecessary speculation, stressing that every effort is being made to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
