As the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), gains momentum ,students’ leaders, youth organizations and political mobilizers have pledged to intensify grassroots awareness campaigns to ensure that every eligible young person registers, collects a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) and participates in future elections.

The commitment was made during a strategic engagement meeting on voters’ registration awareness and mobilization held on Wednesday at the Kano State Library along Ahmadu Bello Way, Kano.

The meeting brought together Students’ Union leaders, members of the State Executive and Local Government Youth Councils, the 44 Local Government Coordinators, 44 APC Youth Leaders, and Special Assistants on Students’ Matters to the 44 Local Government Chairmen.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Students and Youths Voters Awareness and Mobilization, Dr. Yusuf Jibrin Oyoyo, described young people as the backbone of democracy and urged them to seize the opportunity of voter registration to shape the future of Kano State and Nigeria.

He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for providing visionary leadership by establishing the voter registration mobilization structure, noting that the initiative has significantly expanded grassroots participation and strengthened democratic engagement among students and youths across the state.

Dr. Oyoyo also praised the Chairman of the Kano State Task Force Committee on Voters Registration Mobilization and Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for providing effective coordination and leadership that have driven the success of the statewide campaign.

Highlighting the latest registration figures as of June 30, 2026, Dr. Oyoyo disclosed that Kano State had 5,921,370 previously registered voters, while 1,487,215 new voters had been added through the ongoing exercise, bringing the state’s total registered voter population to 7,408,585.

He noted that the impressive performance reflects the growing political awareness among students and youths and further strengthens Kano’s position as one of Nigeria’s foremost democratic states.

According to him, the achievement resulted from sustained sensitization campaigns across tertiary institutions, strong collaboration with Students’ Unions and youth organizations, effective grassroots mobilization in all 44 local government areas, and the unwavering commitment of members of the subcommittee and other stakeholders.

Participants stressed that the campaign must now shift towards encouraging newly registered voters to collect their Permanent Voter Cards while sustaining voter education, civic enlightenment and peaceful participation in the electoral process.

The stakeholders unanimously resolved to deepen collaboration with Students’ Unions across Kano State, strengthen coordination with State and Local Government Youth Councils, and harmonize mobilization efforts with APC Youth Leaders in all the 44 local government areas.

The meeting ended with a collective pledge to intensify awareness campaigns in schools, communities and among youth groups to ensure that no eligible voter is left behind.

Dr. Oyoyo expressed appreciation to all participants for their commitment and urged them to sustain the momentum, emphasizing that an informed and politically active youth population remains the strongest foundation for democratic development and good governance in Kano State. Headline options
