2027:Kano State Govt Directs Political Appointees Seeking Elective Positions To Resign

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

Kano State Government has directed all political appointees intending to contest elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31, 2026.

The directive was contained in a circular issued and signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim.

According to the circular, any political appointee who fails to comply with the directive will be ineligible to contest in the forthcoming elections.

The SSG stated that the decision aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, particularly Section 88(1), which regulates the participation of public office holders in partisan political activities.

He noted that the directive had been communicated to all ministries, departments, agencies, and parastatals across the state for strict compliance.

The circular emphasised the need to uphold neutrality, accountability, and integrity within the public service while ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants ahead of the elections.

It further stated that all affected appointees are required to resign or retire, as applicable, on or before the stipulated deadline.

The government also directed all ministries, departments, and agencies to give the circular wide publicity and ensure full compliance.
