The Chairman of the Kano State Task Force on Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Wa’iya, has assured that effective strategies have been put in place to ensure greater participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise before its closure on July 10

Speaking during monitoring visits to registration centres, Comrade Wa’iya said Kano State’s leading position in the national voter registration exercise serves as a morale booster and reflects the commitment of citizens to their civic responsibilities.

He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adopting a rotational registration approach aimed at taking the exercise closer to the grassroots and making it more accessible to eligible voters.

The Task Force Chairman, who is also the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, described the conduct of the exercise at North West University, Kano, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and the Federal College of Education, Bichi, as highly commendable.

According to him, the presence of registration teams within tertiary institutions has significantly expanded access to voter registration, particularly among young people and first-time voters.

“The commitment demonstrated by INEC and stakeholders is encouraging. We want all eligible citizens to take advantage of this opportunity before the exercise closes,” Wa’iya stated.

Stakeholders within the institutions also expressed support for the exercise and pledged to sustain mobilisation efforts.

The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), North West University chapter, Comrade Muhammad Jaji, and his counterpart from the Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Comrade Bashir Muhammad, underscored the importance of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise.

The labour leaders disclosed that their members had been adequately sensitised and mobilised to participate, describing voter registration as a fundamental civic obligation that strengthens democratic governance.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) at the Federal College of Education, Bichi, Dr. Ali Abubakar Ali, said the exercise would provide members of the institution’s community with the opportunity to actively participate in the electoral process.

Dr. Ali expressed satisfaction with the professionalism displayed by INEC officials handling the registration exercise and called on eligible citizens who are yet to register to do so without delay.

With less than five weeks remaining before the closure of the exercise, stakeholders continue to intensify advocacy and mobilisation efforts to ensure that every eligible voter in Kano State obtains the opportunity to be registered and participate fully in Nigeria’s democratic process.
