Shanono:GOC Commends Frontline Troops For Bravery, Professionalism

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Muhammed Wase, has commended troops for their bravery and professionalism during the recent operation against bandits in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.

A statement by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, said
Major General Wase gave the commendation on Tuesday during an operational assessment visit to frontline troops at Farin Ruwa and Tsaure Forward Operating Bases in Shanono Local Government Area

The GOC charged the troops to remain professional and resolute in their efforts to rid the area of banditry and other forms of criminality.

The operational visit was a follow-up to the recent bandit incursion in Shanono on 2 November 2025, that led to the death of two security personnel and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

The visit was aimed at assessing the security situation and boosting troops’ morale.

General Wase interacted with the troops, listened to their challenges, and offered operational guidance.

He assured them of the continued support of the Chief of Army Staff to ensure that the ongoing operations achieve success and lasting peace in the state.

The GOC later visited a border area between Kano and Katsina States, identified as a major bandits’ crossing point.

He urged the gallant troops to remain vigilant, sustain their operational tempo, and maintain close collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.

The troops on ground comprise troops from 3 Brigade, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Police, and the Civilian Joint Task Force.

Additionally, the GOC later visited the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Government House, Kano.

Highlight of the visit was an interaction on security issues and presentation of souvenir, among others.
