Senator Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila(NNPP) representing Kano South,has donated 20 hectares of land to the Nigerian Navy for the construction of a Boarding Senior Secondary School in Sumaila Local Government Area.
Conducting representatives of the Nigerian Navy round the plot of land on Monday, Senator Sumaila said the donation was to complement the Federal government’s efforts to boost education in the country.
He disclosed that the Federal Government had already earmarked N5.2 billion in the 2025 budget for the construction of the school.
“The school is for both males and females and will admit students from all over the country.This will boost education in Sumaila Local Government Area and Kano State.
“We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the gesture. I donated my land to the Nigerian Navy as part of my contribution to the project. As a representative of my constituents, it is my duty to contribute to this project because it is meant to help my constituents.
“Besides the donation of the land, I will continue to do follow-up to ensure that the project sees the light of the day. I will be part and parcel of any project that concerns my constitutes,” he said.
In a similar development, Senator Sumaila assured the people of the zone of sustained follow-up on the Kano-Wudil-Shuwarin road project, saying the project is critical to the development of the area.
The lawmaker who stated this when he received a delegation from the Triacta Construction Company, also said he would liaise with the Federal Ministry of Works and the company to ensure the completion of the project on time.
NewsFair recalls that contract for the Kano-Maiduguri dual carriage project was awarded by the Obasanjo administration about 20 years ago, but has yet to be completed.
However, following a motion by Senator Sumaila on the Section One of the project, the Federal Executive Council terminated the contract and re-awarded same to Triacta Construction Company.
The contract for the new project is valued at N124.4 billion with a completion timeline of three years.
