Safety Concerns Rise Over Planned Rival Hawan Daushe Processions in Kano

Growing concerns over public safety have emerged in Kano following reports that two rival claimants to the Kano Emirate throne may conduct separate Hawan Daushe processions on Thursday, raising fears of possible clashes, injuries, and destruction of property.
Hon. Abubakar Aminu Daneji, the AAC candidate for Kano Municipal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has urged residents, particularly his supporters, to avoid participating in the planned traditional horse processions expected to be led by His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Daneji said the appeal was aimed at protecting lives and property amid tension surrounding reports that both camps intended to hold separate processions along similar routes within Kano metropolis.
He called on residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and avoid any action capable of escalating tensions during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The warning comes as anxiety grows in communities such as Mandawari, Galadanci, Kwanar Diso and neighbouring areas, where residents fear that overlapping routes could heighten the risk of confrontation.
Several residents and observers have appealed to security agencies to take urgent preventive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
Since the beginning of the Kano Emirate dispute, security authorities had in previous years suspended Sallah durbar activities involving both camps to prevent possible clashes. However, as of the time of filing this report, neither the Kano State Government nor security agencies had publicly announced restrictions on this year’s planned Hawan Daushe processions.
Speaking on the development, Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba, said his camp had formally notified the Kano State Police Command of plans by Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero to conduct Hawan Sallah activities.
According to him, the absence of an official restriction from security authorities was interpreted as permission to proceed.
Meanwhile, differing opinions continue to trail the handling of previous incidents linked to the emirate dispute, with some residents calling for fairness, neutrality, and strict enforcement of security directives across all parties.
Residents in areas expected to witness the processions said many families had already begun advising relatives to remain indoors as a precautionary measure against possible unrest.
On Wednesday, both camps carried out horseback outings that observers described as signs of determination to proceed with their planned activities despite rising concerns.
Reports indicate that Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero is expected to visit his Mandawari residence before continuing with his procession, while Muhammadu Sanusi II is also expected to undertake a separate outing reportedly along a similar route.
Concerned residents have therefore appealed to the Kano State Government, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and other security agencies to urgently review the situation and take proactive measures aimed at preventing violence and safeguarding innocent lives.
They stressed the need for security agencies to act swiftly, fairly, and without bias to ensure peace, stability, and public safety throughout the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in Kano State.
This version is structured like a professional newspaper report, reduces inflammatory language, and emphasizes public safety, balance, and preventive action.
