Safe Corridor: Chairman Wants Government To Support Rehabilitated Youths

The Chairman of the Safe Corridor Initiative in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Salisu Angui Zango, has urged youths across Kano State to shun daba (thuggery) and embrace peaceful, law-abiding conduct.

Zango made the call on Thursday during a press briefing at the Kano Online Media Chapel (KOMC), stressing that the Safe Corridor Initiative was established to rehabilitate and reintegrate youths who voluntarily renounced violence.

He noted that lasting peace in the state could only be achieved when young people rejected criminal activities and were supported with opportunities that encourage responsible and productive living.

Meanwhile, leaders of youths who surrendered their weapons under the Safe Corridor programme have appealed to the Kano State Government to fulfil the commitments made to them after their disarmament.

They disclosed that despite undergoing screening at the Kano State Police Command, coordinated by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Wayya, the promised support is yet to be delivered.

The group said the commitments include vocational skills acquisition, educational support, and provision of sustainable means of livelihood to prevent a relapse into criminal activities.

They reaffirmed their readiness to contribute positively to society and urged the state government to support their resolve to live meaningful and lawful lives.
