The civic movement One Kano Agenda has reiterated its unwavering commitment to unity, inclusiveness, and people-centered development, declaring that political party affiliation should never take precedence over the welfare of Kano State and its citizens.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Kano, the group addressed recent political developments in the state, particularly the decision of the Governor of Kano State to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The movement emphasized that while political realignments may dominate headlines, they are not, in themselves, a measure of leadership or good governance.

“Kano comes first, always,” the group declared, stressing that its allegiance is solely to the people of Kano State and not to political parties, coalitions, or shifting alliances.
One Kano Agenda clarified that it remains a strictly non-partisan civic platform, neither aligned with nor opposed to any political party. According to the group, leadership should be assessed by actions and outcomes—such as the promotion of peace, unity, security, and sustainable development—rather than by party labels.
The organization further noted that effective governance must prioritize economic growth, quality education, accessible healthcare, youth and women empowerment, infrastructure development, and social harmony. Where these priorities are met, the movement said, leadership deserves constructive engagement and public support, regardless of political affiliation.
Reaffirming its long-standing position, One Kano Agenda stated that a governor’s decision to change political parties is irrelevant as long as governance remains inclusive, accountable, and focused on improving the lives of citizens.
“Our engagement will always be issue-based, solution-oriented, and guided by dialogue, evidence, and the collective aspirations of the people of Kano State,” the group said.
The movement concluded by expressing its readiness to work constructively with any administration that demonstrates genuine commitment to the progress and unity of Kano State, urging political actors and stakeholders to place public interest above partisan considerations.
