The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has declared Governor Umar Namadi, also known as Dan Modi, as the 2025 Best Governor in Agriculture in recognition of his administration’s outstanding performance in agricultural development and food security.
The award was presented to the governor on Tuesday at the Government House, Dutse, by the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Abdullahi Yahya, who said the decision followed extensive assessment and scrutiny of agricultural activities across the 36 states of the Federation.
Comrade Yahya explained that the NUJ Standing Committee on Awards embarked on the evaluation exercise to promote excellence and draw attention to the importance of food security in national development.
“Any society lacking access to food is prone to challenges such as malnutrition, poverty, and insecurity,” Yahya stated. “From our findings, Jigawa State under Governor Namadi has demonstrated remarkable commitment and innovation in boosting agricultural productivity, ensuring the state’s bright future in food security.”
The NUJ President also performed the investiture of Governor Namadi as the Grand Patron of the NUJ in Jigawa State, in recognition of his administration’s support for the media and commitment to open governance.
In his remarks, Governor Umar Namadi expressed appreciation to the NUJ for the honor, which he dedicated to the government and people of Jigawa State.
He said his administration had procured 300 tractors, 150 combined harvesters, and boom sprayers to support smallholder farmers and strengthen the state’s agricultural capacity.
Governor Namadi also disclosed that 60 service centers have been established across the 24 local government areas of the state to assist farmers, noting that the entire project is being managed through an online tracking system to ensure transparency and prevent misuse of equipment.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to further collaboration with the NUJ at both state and national levels, emphasizing that effective communication and partnership with the media are essential for achieving development goals
