The Kano State Government has commenced a three-day induction workshop for 19 newly appointed Permanent Secretaries as part of efforts to strengthen leadership capacity and improve service delivery across the state civil service.
The workshop, organised by the Office of the Head of Service, is themed “Accountable Leadership, Policy Execution and Institutional Transformation.” It is designed to equip the new Permanent Secretaries with the leadership skills, policy implementation strategies and managerial competencies required to effectively drive government programmes and institutional reforms.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building a competent, accountable and result-oriented public service.
He described Permanent Secretaries as key drivers of government policies, stressing the need for them to demonstrate effective leadership, transparency, integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities.
In her welcome address, the Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, described the induction programme as a critical component of the state’s ongoing civil service reform agenda.
She said the workshop would expose participants to contemporary leadership practices, public sector management strategies and the ethical standards expected of senior public officers.
Maimota urged the participants to actively engage in all sessions and apply the knowledge gained to enhance service delivery, strengthen institutional performance and support the effective implementation of government policies.
The event was attended by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Sani Sulaiman Wali, alongside top government officials, Permanent Secretaries and other senior civil servants.
Speaking during the vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Human Resource, Alhaji Sabiu Shuaibu Muhammad, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for sustaining training and retraining programmes aimed at improving capacity development and accelerating civil service reforms.
He congratulated the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through dedication, accountability and exemplary leadership.
Muhammad also commended the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Service for their commitment to building a more efficient, responsive and performance-driven civil service.
A statement signed by Director Public Enlightenment, office of the Head of Civil Service, Rukayya Uba Sulaiman says the three-day induction is expected to enhance the leadership capacity of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries and strengthen policy execution in line with the development objectives of the Kano State Government.
