The campaign to increase voter registration in Kano State received another boost on Saturday as the Emir of Karaye, , welcomed members of the Kano State Voter Registration Awareness Committee to his palace in Karaye Emirate.
The committee, established by the Kano State Government to mobilise residents for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, paid the advocacy visit to seek the support of traditional institutions in encouraging eligible citizens to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, the Danmalikin Kano and District Head of Rimingado, explained that the committee’s primary mandate is to work closely with emirs, district heads, village heads, ward heads, community leaders, and religious leaders to sensitise the public on the importance of voter registration. He stressed that broad participation in the electoral process is essential for strengthening democracy and ensuring that every eligible citizen has a voice in determining the future of the country.
Other members of the delegation included Alhaji Garba Badamasi, Galadiman Gezawa; Alhaji Usman Bello; and Alhaji Adamu Yakasai, representing the Danmalikin Kano.
The meeting was attended by several prominent traditional leaders within the Karaye Emirate, including Alhaji Maharazu Muhammad Maharazu, Magajin Garin Karaye and District Head of Karaye; Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Karaye, Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gidan Karaye and District Head of Yola; Alhaji Hamza Abdulmuminu Atiku, Magajin Mallam Karaye; and Alhaji Sabo Muhammad, Bauran Karaye.
The advocacy visit underscored the critical role of traditional rulers in promoting civic responsibility and mobilising communities to participate in the electoral process. With the support of respected community leaders, the committee expressed confidence that more eligible citizens across Kano State will register to vote and actively participate in future elections.
The visit concluded with prayers for the continued good health, peace, and successful reign of the Emir of Karaye, while stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is left behind in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
