In a major boost to Nigeria’s electoral process, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended Phase III of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks, moving the deadline from July 10 to July 24 2026.
The Commission also approved the deployment of a full online voter registration platform, a landmark initiative designed to make voter registration faster, easier and more accessible for millions of eligible Nigerians across the country.
The extension is expected to provide additional opportunities for citizens who have yet to register, update their voter records or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards before the exercise closes.
As part of the extension, INEC approved the deployment of the online registration platform, allowing prospective voters to complete the registration process electronically. The initiative is expected to reduce congestion at registration centres while improving efficiency and convenience.
The Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, is a key component of INEC’s preparations for future elections and its commitment to expanding citizens’ participation in Nigeria’s democratic process
