Gov.Yusuf Accepts Umar Doguwa’s Resignation As Water Resources Commissioner

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has accepted the resignation of the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa.

This is contained in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Tuesday.

Doguwa had formally tendered his resignation on Monday, 2nd March, 2026, with effect from today.

Governor Yusuf expressed deep appreciation to Hon. Doguwa for his commitment, loyalty, and dedicated to the service to the people and government of the state.

The Governor recalled that Hon. Doguwa previously served as Commissioner for Education, where he played a vital role in advancing education policies and reforms, including the declaration of a state of emergency on education, before his redeployment to the Ministry of Water Resources.

He noted that within one year of his stewardship at the Water Resources Ministry, significant milestones were achieved in the rehabilitation of water facilities and the expansion of potable water supply to several communities across the state.

Governor Yusuf also stated that Hon. Doguwa’s leadership helped to strengthen institutional capacity within the ministry and improved service delivery in line with the administration’s vision of providing sustainable water access for all citizens.

The Governor described Hon. Doguwa as a disciplined and hardworking public servant whose contributions would remain part of the administration’s achievements.

He wished him continued success in his future endeavours and assured that the state government would continue to build on the progress recorded in the Water Resources sector.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring uninterrupted water supply and improving the welfare of the people of Kano State.

Subsequently, the Governor had directed the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Education, Gwani Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, to supervise the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive Commissioner.
