Former Kano Local Government Chairmen Debunk Barau Endorsement Claim , Reaffirm Loyalty To APC Leadership

The Association of Former Local Government Chairmen in Kano State, under the umbrella of the ALGON Integrity Group, has firmly dismissed a circulating social media report alleging that former chairmen had endorsed the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for 2027.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Association and former Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government, Hon. Hassan Garban Kauye Farawa, described the report as completely false, misleading, and a deliberate fabrication. He called on APC members in Kano and nationwide to ignore the misinformation.

Hon. Farawa clarified that at the exact time the alleged endorsement meeting was said to have held in Abuja, the majority of the former local government chairmen were in Kano State, attending their regular periodic meeting.

“It is surprising and, frankly, laughable for anyone to claim we were in an Abuja meeting when we were all clearly in Kano,” he said.

He emphasized that the APC in Kano has an established leadership structure — led by former Governor of Kano State, former APC National Chairman, and the political leader of the party in the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (Khadimul Islam). According to him, only the legitimate party leadership has the mandate to set guidelines and procedures for selecting candidates ahead of elections.

Hon. Farawa condemned what he described as attempts by certain individuals or groups to sow confusion within the party, cautioning that such divisive actions are unhelpful and detrimental to the unity and progress of the APC.

He urged party members to remain focused, united, and committed to strengthening the party as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

It will be recalled that former members of the Kano State House of Assembly and former commissioners who served under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje recently issued similar disclaimers, distancing themselves from any purported endorsement of Senator Barau for the 2027 governorship race.
