The member representing Nasarawa Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Bello Aliyu, has disclosed that 100 former drug addicts from his constituency have been successfully rehabilitated and reintegrated as productive citizens.
Hon. Aliyu made the revelation while presenting a paper on the dangers of drug abuse at the three-day Multi-Stakeholders Summit on Combating Drug Abuse, organised by the Kiru Reformative Center.
He explained that many of the beneficiaries of the rehabilitation programme are now gainfully employed across state, federal and private establishments. According to him, the transformation underscores the importance of collective investment in youth recovery and reintegration.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to sponsoring and supporting legislations aimed at curbing drug abuse, adding that no society can progress while battling rising addiction among young people. He praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his continued support in the fight against drug abuse.
Also speaking, the member representing Kiru Constituency, Hon. Usman Abubakar Tasiu, whose area hosts the Kiru Reformative Center, highlighted the negative impact of drug abuse on community development.
He stressed that the Assembly would not relent in enacting laws to check the menace.
Hon. Usman Tasiu further appealed to the public to stop stigmatising drug survivors, noting that acceptance and encouragement are essential for their full recovery and reintegration.
The two legislators later joined a panel discussion where they interacted with participants and responded to questions on policy, community engagement, and the future of drug control initiatives in the state.
