    Banditry:Faruruwa Residents Task President Tinubu,Gov.Yusuf

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

Residents of Faruruwa town and surrounding villages in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to protect them against the prevailing banditry in their localities.

Chairman of the Security Committee of Faruruwa and the surrounding communities, Alhaji Yahaya Umar Bagobiri, made the appeal while addressing journalists in Kano on Thursday.

Bagobiri said Faruruwa and the adjoining towns and villages had been facing indiscriminate attacks by bandits who crossed in from the neighbouring Katsina State, killing people and carting away animals, since 2022.

“We are therefore calling on President Bola Tinubu to deploy adequate security personnel to our towns to check the terror being perpetrated on innocent lives and property by the bandits.

“Equally,we call on the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to partner and cooperate with the Federal Government and security agencies to check the bandits’ activities and prevent them from escalating to other parts of the state,” he said.

The chairman also called on all members of the National Assembly representing the state as well as members of the State House of Assembly to contribute their quota to ensure that the menace is curtailed.

“As our leaders,it is their duty to protect our lives and property,so that security will return to our localities and we resume our normal lives without let or hinderance.

“Because as I am addressing you, right now,our people are fleeing the affected areas and taking refuse in Kano city and other cities outside the State,” he said.

Bagobiri disclosed that the bandits had so far killed many residents of the area and kidnapped some others, and carted away more than 1,600 cattle and hundreds of sheep and goats during their dastardly operations.

He also stated that over N15 million had been paid as ransom to the bandits for some residents they kidnapped in recent times.
