The Adolescent Health and Information Project (AHIP), a youth-focused, non-governmental and non-profit organization, has announced plans to inaugurate a Technical Working Group for its ongoing ROOTS Project in Kano State.
AHIP, which is dedicated to improving the health and economic standards of women and young people, is implementing the ROOTS Project—Resilient Opportunities for Outreach, Trade and Sustainability—in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with funding from the European Union under the “Support to Free Movement of Persons and Migration in West Africa – Phase II (FMM West Africa II).”

The project, a continuation of the first phase, aims to strengthen West Africa’s development potential by addressing key drivers of human mobility, including climate change, gender inequality and economic vulnerability.

ROOTS is currently being implemented in three local government areas of Kano State: Dala, Ungogo and Bunkure.

The intervention promotes climate-smart agriculture and inclusive livelihoods by equipping rural and peri-urban women farmers with improved farming methods, cooperative support and better access to markets to enhance resilience to climate shocks.

It also supports the reintegration of returnee migrants and internally displaced persons through agribusiness training and enterprise development. Youth at risk of irregular migration are being empowered with knowledge on legal migration pathways, vocational training, entrepreneurship and life skills, while female informal cross-border traders are being supported to operate safely and legally through awareness of ECOWAS free movement and regional trade systems.

In addition, the project strengthens the capacity of institutions, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, policymakers and private sector actors to advance gender equality, migrant protection and climate-responsive governance.

Following an inception meeting held on December 30, 2025, participants agreed to form a Technical Working Group to guide project implementation.

Those unable to attend the meeting are expected to be formally incorporated into the group.

Consequently, AHIP has invited all stakeholders to a one-day inauguration of the Technical Working Group scheduled for Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Gidan AHIP, Maiduguri Road, by 9:00 a.m. prompt.

The Project Director, Dr. Hajiya Mairo . Bello,  expressed optimism that the Technical Working Group would strengthen coordination, accountability and impact of the ROOTS Project across the benefiting communities
