ADC Dissolves Kano Exco,Inaugurates Caretaker Committee

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The African Democratic Congress(ADC) on Monday dissolved its Kano State executive committee and constituted a caretaker committee to run its affairs in the state.

The Deputy National Chairman (North-West) of the party, Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed, announced the decision while addressing a press conference at the NUJ Press Centre,Kano.

Naja’atu explained that the action was taken in line with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act and its collective responsibility to protect the future of the party in the state.

“This important action is not out of preference but out of constitutional duty. Every action taken has been guided by the constitution of our party, the Electoral Act and our collective responsibility to protect the future of the ADC in Kano State.

“Our constitution exists precisely for moments such as this. It provides a lawful path to restore stability, preserve continuity and ensure that the affairs of the party continue uninterrupted,” she said.

She said the national leadership of the party had discharged one of its most important responsibilities by preserving the unity, continuity and constitutional integrity of the ADC in the state.

“When circumstances create a leadership vacuum within any political organisation, responsible leadership cannot fold its arms and watch uncertainty consume the institution.

“A political party is built on order, discipline and continuity. Without those pillars, confusion replaces organisation and uncertainty replaces confidence,” she said.

During the inauguration of the Caretaker Committee, the Deputy National Chairman warned members of the party against internal disagreements, saying factional disputes could undermine the party’s ambition of becoming a credible political alternative in Nigeria.

She also urged them to prioritise grassroots mobilisation, membership expansion and community engagement, noting that political opponents would closely monitor the party for any signs of division, stressing that unity, discipline and reconciliation were essential as the ADC prepares for future elections.

Announcing the constitution of the caretaker committee, Najatu described the move as a constitutional measure designed to preserve unity, stability and continuity within the party.

She explained that the committee was established to address a leadership vacuum in accordance with the ADC Constitution and the Electoral Act.

According to her, the decision was neither a victory for any faction nor an attempt to sideline any group, but a necessary administrative step to ensure the party’s affairs continued without disruption.

Hajiya Najaatu Muhammad said the newly-constituted caretaker committee would be chaired by Alhaji Umar Bala.

“The letter presented today is not a political weapon or an instrument of exclusion. It is simply a constitutional response to an administrative reality,” she said.

Najatu also emphasised that the formation of the caretaker committee should not be interpreted as a judgment on the loyalty or contributions of party members, acknowledging the sacrifices made by supporters in building the party in the state.
