    By Abdullahi Yusuf
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has warned political appointees and APC officials against selling empowerment items distributed to constituents, threatening to sack anyone found diverting the materials from the intended beneficiaries.
Yusuf sounded the warning on Monday during the 12th empowerment programme of Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South, where 16 vehicles, 400 motorcycles and sewing machines were distributed to beneficiaries.
Represented by the APC State Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, the Governor said:
“Whoever among you, especially party leaders, who sells this intervention will lose his position;I will personally sack him.The items are meant for your welfare, and not for sale.”
He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries to use the items for the purpose they were intended, explaining that the intervention was meant to improve their welfare, strengthen small businesses and promote economic empowerment.
The governor also expressed optimism about APC’s chances of winning the 2027 general elections at all levels, urging members of the party to intensify efforts towards achieving the party’s electoral success.
“We are hopeful that victory is ours come, 2027 general elections, God willing. Let’s continue to work assiduously to achieve the objective,” he said.
During the event which was held at Kwanar Dawaki,16 vehicles were presented to APC local government chairmen, while 400 motorcycles were distributed to party executives across the senatorial district.
In the tailoring sector, 200 beneficiaries received empowerment packages comprising two standard sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine each, with the aim of strengthening their businesses and enabling them to employ and train others.
In his remarks, Senator Sumaila said the initiative reflected his commitment to translate the confidence reposed in him by constituents into tangible development, economic independence and sustainable livelihoods.
He acknowledged the economic and development challenges facing the people over the past three years, but assured of his commitment to continued delivery of dividends of democracy to the Kano South Senatorial District.
The lawmaker listed interventions such as security, road infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare and water supply among his achievements in the zone.
On security, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to protect lives and property across the district, commending local vigilante members, popularly those known as Yan Sa-kai, for their efforts at securing Falgore Forest in Doguwa Local Government Area.
He said several roads had been constructed, bridges built, drainage systems installed and damaged roads rehabilitated to improve transportation and commercial activities.
In agriculture, Sumaila said farmers in the zone had received machinery, farming implements, improved seeds and thousands of bags of fertiliser to support wet-season and dry-season farming.
He added that motorised, solar-powered and hand-pump boreholes had been provided to improve access to clean water in various communities.
On education, the lawmaker said schools had been constructed and rehabilitated, learning materials supplied, while more than 1,000 students had received support in secondary and tertiary institutions.
He further disclosed that healthcare facilities across the district had been renovated and equipped with modern medical tools to improve access to medical services.
The Senator thanked Almighty Allah for the opportunity to serve, saying the achievements recorded during his first term demonstrated what dedicated leadership could accomplish despite the prevailing challenges.
He appealed to constituents to remain understanding and supportive, acknowledging that it was impossible for one individual to meet every personal request.
He assured the constituents that he would continue to work to ensure that the benefits of his mandate reached all parts of Kano South, with emphasis on human capital development, economic empowerment and improved living standards.
