Kano Steals The Show In Kaduna: Abba Yusuf Emerges As Tinubu’s Political Mobiliser
    By Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson
When Kano moves, the political landscape takes notice. At the APC presidential campaign rally held in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the massive turnout of Kano APC supporters emerged as one of the gathering’s most striking spectacles. Their energetic chants of “Abba Gida Gida!” projected Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s political influence, captured the enthusiasm of his supporters and placed Kano firmly in the spotlight at an event hosted by Kaduna. The occasion offered a powerful demonstration of Kano’s mobilisation capacity and Governor Yusuf’s emerging role in uniting the APC in the state and galvanising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The rally was more than a gathering of party faithful; it was a declaration of political solidarity and a vivid expression of renewed confidence in the APC under Governor Yusuf’s leadership. The sheer size and enthusiasm of the Kano contingent created an atmosphere that appeared to overshadow the host state’s presence, turning Kaduna into a spectator of Kano’s political spectacle.
The message was unmistakable: Kano had arrived, and it had come with a renewed sense of purpose.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the APC has introduced a new dynamic into Kano’s political landscape. His leadership offers the party an opportunity to consolidate its grassroots strength, reconcile different political interests and build a formidable coalition ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Kaduna rally provided a vivid illustration of that opportunity. The massive turnout of Kano supporters, their enthusiasm and the repeated invocation of “Abba Gida Gida!” conveyed a powerful message about the governor’s political standing among his followers.
In politics, leadership is ultimately demonstrated by the ability to inspire people, bring them together and direct their collective energy towards a shared purpose. By mobilising such a formidable contingent for a rally outside his state, Governor Yusuf projected an image of a leader capable of transforming political loyalty into organised action.
His emerging position within Kano APC is significant not merely because he occupies the highest political office in the state, but because he has the opportunity to serve as the bridge connecting different constituencies within the party.
For the APC, this is an invaluable political asset. A united Kano APC, anchored by effective leadership and strong grassroots mobilisation, could make a significant contribution to the party’s national electoral fortunes.
The Kaduna rally was also a statement of Kano’s potential contribution to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political future. The scale of the mobilisation underscored the strategic importance of Governor Yusuf in the APC’s efforts to strengthen its presence in one of Nigeria’s most consequential electoral states.
As governor and a prominent political figure in Kano, Yusuf is well positioned to play a leading role in mobilising support for the President. His ability to bring party members and supporters together could prove instrumental in expanding the APC’s reach and sustaining enthusiasm for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The sight of thousands of Kano supporters travelling to Kaduna under the APC banner projected the governor’s capacity to mobilise beyond his immediate political environment. It also demonstrated the potential of his leadership to connect Kano’s political energy with the APC’s broader national objectives.
The “Abba Gida Gida!” chant, which dominated the atmosphere, symbolised the connection between the governor and his political base. That connection, if sustained and broadened, could become a significant instrument for building support for both the APC in Kano and President Tinubu nationally.
The rally therefore reinforced the prospect of Governor Yusuf emerging as one of the key figures in the party’s mobilisation efforts in the North-West, with Kano’s political weight providing an important foundation for the President’s re-election campaign.
One of the most important consequences of Governor Yusuf’s defection is the opportunity it creates to bring different political tendencies together under a common platform. By encouraging cooperation between longstanding party members and new entrants, the governor can help build an APC that is more cohesive, better organised and more capable of pursuing its electoral objectives.
The Kaduna mobilisation offered an encouraging picture of what such unity can achieve. The supporters gathered under one banner, expressed a common political identity and projected confidence in the party’s direction.
Governor Yusuf’s leadership is central to sustaining this momentum. His ability to reconcile interests, maintain internal harmony and inspire confidence among party members could determine how effectively the APC converts its current enthusiasm into electoral strength.
The strength of a political party lies not simply in the number of its members but in their willingness to work together towards a common objective. When political differences give way to shared purpose, individual strengths combine to create a formidable collective force.
For Kano APC, the Kaduna rally has provided an opportunity to deepen that spirit of cooperation and strengthen the party’s preparations for 2027.
Kano occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s political calculations. Its population, vibrant political culture and history of mass participation make it a state of considerable importance to any party seeking a national electoral mandate.
The Kaduna rally has reinforced this reality. The massive Kano crowd, the energetic chants of “Abba Gida Gida!” and the attention attracted by the contingent combined to project a powerful image of political momentum.
Kano did not merely participate in the gathering; it commanded attention and reinforced its place at the centre of the political conversation.
For Governor Yusuf, the opportunity now is to transform this display of enthusiasm into sustained political organisation, inclusive leadership and stronger grassroots engagement. For the APC, it is an opportunity to consolidate its position in Kano and strengthen its national campaign machinery. For President Tinubu, a united and energised Kano APC could become an important pillar of the party’s 2027 electoral strategy.
The ultimate test, however, will be the ability to sustain the unity displayed at the rally, maintain meaningful engagement with citizens and translate political enthusiasm into support at the ballot box.
Governor Yusuf’s emerging role as a leading political mobiliser for President Tinubu will depend on how effectively he builds on this momentum and brings together the different constituencies within the APC.
The Kaduna rally has offered an encouraging glimpse of that possibility.
In the final analysis, the significance of the gathering extends beyond the crowd, the chants and the spectacle. It reflects an opportunity for Governor Yusuf to consolidate his leadership, strengthen the APC’s unity in Kano and help mobilise support for President Tinubu’s 2027 ambition.
When Kano moves as one, its political voice becomes impossible to ignore. In Kaduna, that voice carried the unmistakable rhythm of “Abba Gida Gida!”—a powerful expression of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s leadership and a rallying call for a united APC marching towards 2027.
