Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command Realizes N88.9bn Revenue From January To Date

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Kano/Jigawa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) says it has realized the sum of over N88.9 billion as revenue from January to date.

The Acting Customs Area Controller of the Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Umar Usman Adamu, disclosed this while briefing Journalists on the achievements of the command at its premises in Kano on Friday.

Adamu said the figure showed a variance of about N25 billion from July, 2026 to date.

He also revealed that the month of July recorded the highest monthly collection in the history of the Command with over N14 billion generated.

“You may wish to recall that during our half-year press briefing, the Command generated the sum of N63,078,655,523.44 billion Naira in revenue,” he said further.

The Acting Area Controller also recalled that the command had recently intercepted and seized 48 endangered wildlife species comprising 15 primates including Chimpanzees, Gorillas and Bush Babies.

Others, he said, were 4 wild cats such as Civet and Caracal Wild Cats, 25 wild birds such as Greater Boosters, and Rock Fowls,
2 Albino Crocodiles and a Honey Badger.

He disclosed that 3 suspects were arrested in connection with the interception of the endangered wildlife species and had been handed over to the Special Wildlife Office of the NCS Headquarters for further action.

“Ladies and gentlemen, at this point, it is important to note that this is believed to be the largest and most diverse single seizure of wildlife ever recorded in the history of the Nigeria Customs Service and probably the West African Sub Region.

“This interception underscores the scale and gravity of the trafficking attempt. It also shows the Command’s intensified resolve to protect our biodiversity and uphold obligations under international conventions and section 55(1)(i) of the NCS Act 2023,” he said.

The Acting Area Controller then decried what he described as a disturbing trend observed during the command’s enforcement operations when some intercepted smuggled vehicles were found with Government Service official plate numbers in an attempt to evade Customs control.

“I would like to bring to public attention a disturbing trend observed during our enforcement operations. Some intercepted smuggled vehicles have been found with Government Service official plate numbers in an attempt to evade Customs control. We shall continue to monitor such trends deterrence,” he added.
