Kano/Jigawa Customs Command Generates N63.08bn In 6 Months

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Kano/Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) has generated N63.08 billion Naira as revenue from January to June 2026.

The figure surpassed the sum of over N58.39 billion generated during the corresponding period of 2025 by approximately N4.7 billion Naira.

It also represents a growth of about 7.4 per cent,”despite the decline in cargo throughput.”

The Acting Customs Area Controller,Kano/Jigawa Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Usman U. Adamu, disclosed this while addressing Journalists on the activities of the command in the last six months,on Wednesday.

“Notably, the Kano Free Trade Zone generated over 26 billion Naira during the first half of 2026. This exceeded the total revenue generated by the Zone from January to December 2025 by approximately 4 billion Naira.

“The Command’s initiatives also led to the recovery of about 3 billion Naira from abuse of transit procedures during the period under review,” Adamu said.

According to him,the command has intensified its enforcement activities through intelligence-driven operations and effective inter-agency collaboration in line with the Service’s mandate of protecting the nation’s economy and preventing the importation of controlled, prohibited and restricted goods.

“These efforts resulted in 13 categories of notable detentions and seizures, which include unregistered pharmaceuticals such as tramadol, pregabalin, which were intercepted to protect public health in line with Section 55(c) of the NCS Act 2023.

“Four units of Air pistols imported in contravention of the Firearms Act,endangered Wildlife Animals including elephant tusks under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and Schedule 6 of the Export Prohibition List of the Common External Tariff (CET) 2022-2027,” he said.

The acting controller also disclosed that over 2,000 pieces of 25-litre kegs of foreign refined packaged vegetable oil were intercepted in order to protect domestic industries and in violation of Schedule 3 Import Prohibition List (Trade) of the Common External Tariff (CET).

He said a total of 22 suspects were arrested in connection with the detentions and seizures, adding that some had been handed over to the relevant security and regulatory agencies for further investigation, while others are on administrative bail.

“Additionally, the Command recorded major interceptions at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport involving cross-border movement of undeclared foreign currencies, in violation of the Anti-Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

“The intercepted undeclared cash and other negotiable instruments consisted of 568,100 United States Dollars, 134,256 Saudi Riyals, 28 Chinese Yuan, 20 Ghana Cedis and 35 kilograms of silver bars worth 175,000,000.00 million Naira, underscoring the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating illicit financial flows and safeguarding Nigeria’s financial system,” he said.
