Africa Media Development Foundation Marks International Women’s Day 2026.

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF) today joins the world in commemorating the International Women’s Day 2026.

Equally, the Foundation joins the global community in highlighting the United Nation’s theme in celebrating the Day, “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”

The theme calls for concrete steps toward advancing gender equality, protecting women’s rights, and ensuring justice and inclusion for women and girls across Africa.

AMDF recognizes the vital role of the media in shaping narratives, influencing policy, and promoting social change.

However, the group noted, many women and girls across the continent continue to face barriers including limited access to opportunities and underrepresentation in media leadership and decision making spaces.

In line with this year’s theme, AMDF says it reaffirms its commitment to promoting gender sensitive and inclusive opportunities, supporting women journalists and story tellers, amplifying the voices and stories of women and girls across Africa.

It also reaffirms its resolve in advocating policies that advance gender justice and equality and challenging harmful stereotypes and misinformation that undermine women’s rights.

“Gender equality is not only a women’s issue but a shared societal responsibility. Empowering women and girls strengthens communities, supports economic growth, and reinforces democratic development.

“As we celebrate women around the world, AMDF calls on media institutions, policymakers, civil society organizations, and development partners to translate commitments into meaningful action.

Together, we must work to close gender gaps, challenge discriminatory norms, and create a media landscape where every woman and girl can fully thrive.

“We remain committed to promoting responsible, inclusive, and development driven media across Africa.

“Together, let us champion rights, demand justice, and take action for ALL women and girls,” the Foundation said.
