In a strategic push to strengthen access to safe, affordable, and quality medicines, the Medipool Nigeria team on Thursday paid a high-level advocacy visit to the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA), spotlighting the critical role of efficient Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) systems in public healthcare delivery.
Led by the Medipool Project Lead, Kafayat Babalola, the delegation engaged DMCSA leadership to gain first-hand insight into the agency’s DRF operations—covering procurement, warehousing, distribution, inventory control, and financial sustainability. Babalola said the visit aligns with Medipool’s mandate to promote efficient, transparent, and sustainable supply chains for essential medicines and medical consumables nationwide.
She emphasized that robust DRF systems are indispensable for uninterrupted availability of quality medicines at public health facilities, noting that lessons from Kano will inform Medipool’s future technical support, collaboration, and system optimization efforts across states.
Receiving the delegation, the Director General of DMCSA, Pharm. Gali Sule, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and adherence to best practices in pharmaceutical supply chain management. He explained that ongoing reforms at DMCSA—approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf—are designed to boost efficiency, reduce stock-outs, and expand access to essential medicines for residents of Kano State.
According to Pharm. Sule, the visit reflects a shared resolve by Medipool and DMCSA to strengthen public health systems through sound drug financing and supply chain governance, ultimately improving healthcare outcomes for the population.
The engagement featured in-depth technical discussions with DMCSA management and operational teams, alongside facility tours to assess storage standards, logistics systems, and data management processes underpinning DRF operations.
    About Medipool Nigeria:
Medipool is a government-backed initiative established to centralize procurement and expand access to affordable, quality-assured medicines and medical consumables through efficient supply chain and financing mechanisms. Structured as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), Medipool aggregates demand across public and private sectors, stimulates local manufacturing, and enhances transparency. It is Nigeria’s first national Group Purchasing Organization (GPO), approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in May 2025 to lower healthcare costs and improve access to essential medicines.
    About DMCSA:
The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency is mandated to procure, store, and distribute medicines and consumables to public health facilities across the state, anchored on the administration of the Drug Revolving Fund to ensure sustainability and continuity of care.
This collaboration underscores a growing national momentum to safeguard medicine quality, availability, and affordability—placing patients and public health outcomes at the center of reform.
