Over 9,680 Volunteers To Partake In Kano Online Pre-voter Registration

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

No fewer than 9,680 volunteers are to participate in the ongoing online pre-voter registration exercise in 484 wards across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State.

This is contained in a statement signed by Malam Usman Bello on behalf of the state Task Force On Mobilization of Voters’ Registration

Bello said a minimum of 20 volunteers with android phones would be engaged in each of the wards, depending on the size of their polling units.

He said the volunteers would be assisting eligible individuals who do not possess android phones to enable them to register online in their respective areas.

This, according him,is part of the resolutions reached at the meeting between the Taskforce and Chairmen of the 44 Local Government Councils in the state, held at the Conference Hall of the state Ministry For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, on Monday.

Bello said the meeting resolved that the volunteers who are indigenes of their respective areas, including females, would be trained on the online pre-voter registration process before they would commence operation.

“They are also expected to train other volunteers at the polling units level for effective coverage of the exercise,” he explained.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Taskforce, who is also the state Commissioner for information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the meeting was aimed at creating synergy between the local government Chairmen and the Taskforce “for a successful and seamless voter registration exercise, especially that statistics of the earlier online pre-voter registration exercise revealed low participation of Kano State despite being the most populous in the country.”

Wayya said this should serve as a wake-up call, appealing to the local government Chairmen to tighten their belts by sensitizing their people on the significance of the exercise.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of providing necessary support to the logistics-intensive exercise.

On his part, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajo Othman Zaura, enjoined the Local Government Chairmen to intensify efforts to ensure the success of the exercise .

Zaura emphasized that the exercise was part of the State Government’s strategy to ease the process for the people and ensure that no citizens, irrespective of party affiliation, is left out.

He urged the local council leaders to handle the process as a civic duty, irrespective of party affiliation, as the exercise is aimed at strengthening democracy and good governance.

The Chairman of Nasarawa Local Government who is also the state ALGON Vice Chairperson, Alhaji Yusuf Imam Ogan Boye, pledged the commitment and support of local government chairmen to achieve the desired results in the voter registration exercise.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Councillors’ Forum, Alhaji Bashir Achika, described the voter registration exercise as significant in the electoral process, and reaffirmed their commitment to a successful exercise.

The Taskforce later met with 484 councillors at the Coronation Hall, government House, where Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, solicited their support and cooperation in the voter registration exercise.
