A member of the House of Representatives representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya in Kano State,Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, has called for a total ban on hunters’ movements from the North to the Southern parts of the country, citing security concerns.

Rurum made the call at Torankawa in Bunkure Local Government Area rea of Kano State on Thursday where he condoled with the families of the 16 hunters killed at Uromi,Edo State, recently.

“The present day Nigeria requires people doing businesses or traditional activities that would not create any suspicion that might result to tensions.

“Carrying dangerous weapons and moving around with them from one end to another in this sensitive period of insecurity in the land will surely send a bad signal and result in chaos. Therefore, our hunters should henceforth stop it.

“Just recently over 30 of my Rano hometown hunters were apprehended in Ondo State. I had to personally go and see the Governor and show every evidence that they are not criminals before he worked out for their released.

“If those people in Ondo State who arrested our Rano hunters were senseless like those Uromi killers, what do you think would have happened. The story would have been different by now,” the lawmaker said.

He donated N5 million to the families of the deceased hunters and promised to immediately commence the building of Islamiyya Primary and Secondary School in the area for the orphans of the slain hunters.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the factional NNPP with Fruits Logo, Senator Masaud El-Jibrin Doguwa, said he was touched by the Uromi killing but added the incident should serve as a lesson that would help guard against the reoccurrence of such heinous crimes.
