    From Khadijat Saidu, Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has donated N200 million to victims of the recent attacks on Kaoje and neighbouring communities in Bagudo Local Government Area and vowed to strengthen security in the affected areas.
Governor Idris announced the donation on Saturday during a condolence visit to the communities where several lives were lost, property destroyed and residents displaced.
He said an additional N100 million was released, bringing the total financial assistance provided by the state government to N200 million.
The Governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives and assured that the state government would take further measures to prevent further attacks, protect lives and property, and restore lasting peace.
He stressed that the killing of innocent citizens would not be tolerated by either the state or federal government, and urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and supportive of security agencies.
According to him, a committee comprising security officials and relevant stakeholders has been constituted to assess the situation, adding that relative peace has returned to the communities.
He warned that anyone found responsible for further attacks would face the full weight of the law.
Idris disclosed that arrangements have been concluded for the deployment of three security units, including one to cover Bagudo and another to strengthen security towards Yauri and surrounding communities, while additional operational vehicles for security agencies have been ordered.
“There can be no development without security. We will not rest until our people can sleep peacefully in their homes,” he assured.
Former Governor of the State and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, commiserated with the people of Kaoje, describing insecurity as a serious challenge that requires collective responsibility.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Alhaji Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, disclosed that the state government had procured more than 30 armoured vehicles and other security equipment to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies.
Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, said he had engaged the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who assured of decisive action in collaboration with the nation’s security chiefs.
The member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bello Abubakar Kaoje, commended the Governor for his prompt response despite being outside the country when the incident occurred.
Earlier, the Village Head of Buya, Umar Abdullahi, and the Councillor representing Lafagu/Gante ward recounted the attacks and appealed for sustained security and more assistance.
The Sarkin Bargun Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Adamu, appreciated the Governor for the condolence visit and relief assistance and assured of the community’s support for peace and unity.
