Kebbi Govt Condemns Jega Violence, Demands Probe

The Kebbi State Government has sympathised with residents of Jega who suffered losses following the recent violence and destruction of property in the area, while condemning all acts of violence, intimidation and criminality.
The State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Isah Assalafi, stated this on Sunday during a press conference at the APC Secretariat in Birnin Kebbi.
Assalafi called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident to establish the facts, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full consequences of the law.
He said political differences must never degenerate into violence or destruction of property, stressing that political competition must be conducted through lawful and peaceful means.
The APC spokesman cautioned political actors and supporters against inflammatory statements and misinformation capable of escalating tension in Jega or any part of the state.
He noted that Jega has a long history of active political participation and peaceful coexistence, and the actions of a few individuals should not be allowed to tarnish the image of the area.
He urged security agencies to ensure accountability based on evidence rather than speculation or political affiliation.
Assalafi commended security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents for restoring calm and called on them to remain vigilant.
He further urged political parties to take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters and reject political thuggery.
Reaffirming the commitment of Governor Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, to development, he said peace and security remain essential for the implementation of government programmes across the state.
