An Upper Shari’a Court 3 in Takalau, Birnin Kebbi, has remanded Salim Abubakar, alias “Shekare”, in a correctional facility, pending sentencing after he pleaded guilty to forging an ADC logo and defaming Kebbi State Commissioner Dr. Abba Sani Kalgo on Facebook.

Abubakar, of Illela in Kalgo Local Government Area, was arraigned on Friday, September 4, 2026, before Judge Samaila Alhaji Noma on charges of forgery, defamation and breach of public peace.
The case followed a petition by Dr. Kalgo, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, who requested police investigation into the alleged conduct.

According to the charge, the offences violate Sections 373, 374, 348 and 79(1) of the Kebbi State Penal Code, 2021.
Prosecuting Officer, Cpl. Faruk Abdullahi, told the court that the accused created a political graphic with the Commissioner’s name, image and the ADC logo on Facebook, suggesting that Dr. Kalgo belongs to the ADC. He said the accused also uploaded and shared the material on other social media platforms.

When the charges were read, Abubakar pleaded guilty to all counts and the court entered a conviction.

Judge Noma said: “Having found you, Salim Abubakar, guilty of all the charges brought against you, you are hereby convicted accordingly.”

Mudashiru Sale, Esq. appeared for the complainant in a watching brief.

Following the conviction, both the prosecution and defence sought an adjournment to address the court on sentencing.

Ruling on the application, Judge Noma, pursuant to Section 305 of the Kebbi State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2021, adjourned judgment to September 18, 2026. He ordered that the convict be remanded in a correctional facility until then.
