Former NUJ President Comrade Garba Inaugurates Newly-refurbished Kano Correspondents’ Chapel Office

    By Abdullahi Yusuf

Former President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Comrade Muhammad Garba,on Sunday inaugurated the newly-refurbished office complex of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, in a colourful ceremony attended by prominent media stakeholders, among others.

While unveiling the newly-rehabilitated office complex, Comrade Garba,a two-term Commissioner in the Ganduje administration in the state, commended the leadership of the chapel for the initiative.

Alongside other prominent stakeholders in the media industry including Prof.Sule Ya’u Sule, the Chief of Staff to the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress(APC), also praised the chapel’s leadership for improving the working environment and promoting the welfare and unity of its members.

Other dignitaries who spoke in the same vein included Malam Habibu Kila, Hajiya Aishatu Sule and Abdullateef Abubakar Jos.

Comrade Garba and all the other dignitaries described the refurbishment as a significant development that would provide members with a more conducive environment for professional activities, meetings and interaction with stakeholders.

They also commended the Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Murtala Adewale, and his executive committee for demonstrating commitment to the development of the chapel and the welfare of its members.

They urged the leadership to sustain the momentum by introducing more initiatives capable of strengthening the professional capacity, unity and welfare of journalists.

In his remarks, Adewale explained that the refurbishment was conceived as part of the leadership’s determination to transform the chapel’s office into a befitting and functional facility for members.

He said the idea was driven by the need to provide journalists with a more conducive environment where they could hold meetings, engage stakeholders and attend to professional responsibilities.

According to him, the project was not achieved overnight, but through careful planning, commitment and the support of individuals and stakeholders who believed in the vision.

The Chairman expressed appreciation to those who contributed to the realisation of the project, saying the unveiling marked another milestone in the history of the chapel.

He said the refurbished facility would serve not only as an office but also as a centre for professional engagement, capacity building and strengthening the bond among members.

He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to initiatives that would improve the welfare and professional standing of members, noting that a strong and united chapel was essential to advancing the interests of journalists.

The commissioning ceremony formed part of the chapel’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its institutional structures and create an enabling environment for journalists to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

The Kano Correspondents’ Chapel is one of the recognised chapels under the NUJ Kano State Council, and under the Murtala Adewale leadership, the chapel has in recent months, also pursued welfare and institutional initiatives, including a cooperative society aimed at improving members’ financial stability and access to various support programmes.
