By Abdullahi Yusuf
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s official announcement of the nomination of his Deputy, Murtala Sule Galadima Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election, is seen as a strategy to ensure that the electorates of the 44 Local Government Areas of the state vote for the Governor’s continuity in office.
Submitting this position on Monday, Dr.Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, the Director Finance Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, said the track records of the Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo are well known across the state.
“Don’t forget that just recently in the last administration of Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Murtala Sule Garo held the strategic position of Commissioner for Local Governments, and during that period you have seen how he helped to transform the Local Government Council Areas,” Kwankwaso said.
Not only that, he explained, Hon. Garo maintained a loyal relationship with political, religious and traditional leaders of the 44 Local Government Areas.
“As at today, I bet you, in the whole of Kano State, there no politician that enjoys that kind of goodwill and respect from Local Government stakeholders like Murtala Sule Garo, and even outside power, he maintains his relationship with them,” he said.
The APC bigwig also recalled that Garo had held the position of Chairman of ALGON when he was the Chairman of Kabo Local Government of the State.
“Apart from holding political offices, Murtala Sule Garo is a very loyal and respectful person who always vows his head to his superiors and you will never see him arguing or sabotaging you when you relate with him,” he said.
Kwankwaso, therefore, thanked Governor Yusuf for his choice of Garo as his running mate, assuring him that he will not betray him.
“Together with Murtala Sule Garo you will capture Kano for yourself and President Tinubu who has already been accepted because of the tremendous development projects he is executing in the state,” he said.
Governor Yusuf had said that his decision to pick Garo as running mate followed Garo’s outstanding loyalty, commitment, and unwavering passion for the development of Kano State since assuming office as Deputy Governor.
He expressed satisfaction with the working relationship between them, noting that Garo had demonstrated competence, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility in the discharge of his duties.
“I have no regrets for choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice, so far. I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him,” Governor Yusuf declared.
The Governor also passed a vote of confidence on the Deputy Governor, describing him as a dependable partner whose contributions have strengthened the administration’s drive to deliver meaningful development across Kano State.
